The Merseyside giants have had a poor defence of their Premier League title and they have picked up only 49 points from 31 matches. Amidst this, the Reds are contemplating the prospect of parting ways with Slot and have made initial contact with Alonso to succeed him.

Alonso was initially on the club's radar in the summer of 2024, but he opted to continue with Bayer Leverkusen after their invincible season. If Liverpool were to end the campaign on a disappointing note without a trophy, they could decide to replace Slot with Alonso this summer.
