That relationship soured in February 2025 when he was axed from Al-Ahli’s domestic squad registration following the club’s signing of Wenderson Galeno from Porto.

Restricted to AFC Champions League appearances only, he responded in the most emphatic way possible – delivering two assists in the final against Kawasaki Frontale last May, being named the tournament’s most valuable player, and ending in tears at full-time as Al-Ahli claimed their first-ever continental title. With his Al-Ahli contract expired, Firmino made the move to Qatar in July 2025, signing a two-year deal with Al Sadd – the country’s most decorated club with 18 league titles to their name.
