Sterling joined the Dutch side in February following his departure from Chelsea, but has struggled to make an impact, leaving his future uncertain once again. He also faced criticism from the Dutch media after a 0-0 draw with FC Volendam earlier this month. Feyenoord and Sterling are expected to part ways at the end of the current Eredivisie campaign in May.The England international has failed to secure a regular starting spot, making just 333 minutes of league appearances since his arrival on a short-term deal.According to Algemeen Dagblad, Sterling has remained professional despite his limited role, but his performances have not convinced the club to extend his stay.Although head coach Robin van Persie initially hinted at a possible extension, Feyenoord’s hierarchy has now ruled it out.
Sterling has shown commitment in training and in a recent friendly against Excelsior, but the club believes his performances have fallen short of the level required to earn a permanent deal.Reflecting on the winger’s impending departure, the report from AD stated: “At 1908 and also in the friendly against Excelsior, they subsequently saw an English celebrity who worked extremely hard.“No, he didn’t show much quality against Excelsior either, but Sterling is determined to give his all until he bids farewell as a Feyenoord player on May 17. That is – naturally – no longer the case.”Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord are pushing for a second-place finish, which would secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League league phase. In their final four matches, they face FC Groningen, Fortuna Sittard, AZ, and PEC Zwolle while holding a one-point lead over KNVB Cup finalists NEC Nijmegen.Sterling, however, has struggled to justify expectations, registering no goals and just one assist in six appearances while falling short of his previous level.
