Image Credits: Imago ImagesThe A-League has quietly been building a reputation for attracting serious football minds, and Brisbane Roar’s latest appointment is a statement of intent.The Queensland club have officially confirmed James Gow as their new full-time Sporting Director, effective May 1, 2026.Gow is a name well known to those who follow Liverpool’s academy infrastructure closely, and his time at the club, he wore many hats.In 2011, he served as a performance analysis intern, servicing the first team, the Elite Development U21 squad and the academy across all age groups – a period that saw him work under Kenny Dalglish in his second stint as Liverpool manager.He later was also appointed International Academy Technical Director, overseeing Liverpool’s global academy operations in regions including China and Australia, where he managed and developed more than 30 coaches and helped establish performance and sports science departments.
He departed the club having earned a UEFA Pro Licence and a Masters in Sporting Directorship.Now after a spell with Aalborg BK (AaB), which he joined in 2023 following their first relegation from the Danish Superliga, Brisbane Roar Gow has been officially confirmed Gow as their new sporting director.Brisbane Roar CEO Kaz Patafta said: “Bringing James to Brisbane Roar is a statement of where this club is headed and our focus now to have a club driven approach. That is exactly what this club, this city and our supporters deserve.”James Gow added: “I’m excited to be joining Brisbane Roar at such an important moment for the club.
