Jamie Carragher is hoping to see Arne Slot stay in charge of Liverpool after delivering a major trophy this season.It has been a terrible second year with the Reds for Slot, who is facing calls for the sack after a shockingly bad Premier League title defence.But with Liverpool still in the FA Cup and Champions League, Carragher has claimed that he wants the Dutchman to stay, because if he does, it will likely mean that the Reds have won another piece of silverware. Or at least Liverpool as I would always wish them to be perceived,” he says.“If Slot leaves Liverpool a year after winning the Premier League title, it signals a more extreme sign of the times: no club is immune to impatience and intolerance when an expensively assembled squad keeps losing, regardless of the mitigating circumstances.”Carragher urges Liverpool to stop looking for Jurgen Klopp 2.0While also suggesting that Slot is under more pressure because of the current availability of his former teammate Xabi Alonso, Carragher uses his column to urge supporters to stop looking for their manager to be a rebranded Jurgen Klopp.“My fear is Liverpool supporters are already behaving like United fans in the aftermath of Ferguson’s departure,” he says, not unjustifiably. His presence at last weekend’s legends game at Anfield was a reminder of his aura.”While these are fair points from Carragher, and it seems unlikely that Slot will leave if he does deliver more silverware, in the more realistic scenario that Liverpool win nothing, there is a serious argument that the Dutchman’s time should be up.
